Church Calendar 2006

In December 1995, the General Assembly proclaimed the First United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (1997-2006).

2006 is the 20th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s visit to Alice Springs and his address to Indigenous Australians. To mark this historical event, the 2006 Social Justice Sunday Statement will focus on Social Justice for Indigenous Australians.

This theme will provide a focus for social justice activities for the year.

" In Truth is Peace" is the theme of the Message of the Holy Father Benedict XVI for the 39th World Day of Peace, to be held on January 1, 2006.

World Day of Prayer for the Sick
Our Holy Father has declared February 11 the World Day of the Sick.

(Feb. 11 is the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes-Lourdes is renowned as a place of holiness and healing.)
