Australian Retreat Directory - A Quiet Place updated and onlineBy Catholic Communications, Sydney Archdiocese Almost three months in preparation, the new version of the directory contains more information than ever before on more than eighty retreat centres from across Australia. The list of centres included is also greatly expanded to make A Quiet Place the most comprehensive retreat directory ever seen in Australia. Ms Marita Franklin, Director of Catholic Communications, said “This is the third edition of A Quiet Place, a revision of the work originally published in print form in 1995, and then on the Internet in 2000. The work has been a valuable resource for the many people in Australia seeking spiritual refreshment.” One happy retreatant, Elizabeth, gave feedback that she was delighted to find A Quiet Place directory on her search for a retreat centre. She says ‘I wanted to make some kind of retreat and was having difficulty finding information. A Quiet Place was most helpful.’ All Retreat Centres in Australia were invited to be part of the new directory, completing a survey form that included information in more than thirty categories, expanding the existing information to ask such questions as whether special dietary requirements are catered for, whether there is wheelchair access, is the eucharist reserved in the chapel, is spiritual direction available, and is the centre accessible from public transport. Richard Healey, responsible for the new version, used his experience of living in Mount Carmel Retreat Centre for more than three years to prepare the survey and create the new database that forms the basis of the new website. “We are grateful to those who have provided information for this directory, especially those who invite us to their spiritual sanctuaries. In a world that is all too frequently over-busy and distracted, it is important that A Quiet Place reflect the common yearning of us all for inner peace,” says Ms Franklin. One of the main features of the new directory is that every retreat centre has been given direct access to the information presented on their centre, so that they can update and change their own entries whenever they need to. This will ensure that Catholic Communications’ retreat directory will always contain the most up-to-date information available to the Australian public.
