Two new Auxiliary Bishops to be Consecrated tonightBy CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF SYDNEY Principal Co-Consecrators will be Cardinal Edward Bede Clancy, Archbishop Emeritus of Sydney and Bishop Bernard Cyril O’Grady OP, Bishop of Gizo (Solomon Islands). The procession prior to Mass will feature Heads and Representatives of other Christian Churches and Communities. These will be followed by Students of Redemptoris Mater Seminary at Pagewood, Students of the Seminary of the Good Shepherd at Homebush, Dominican Friars, Visiting Diocesan and Religious Clergy and priests of the Archdiocese of Sydney. Over 30 bishops from across Australia will follow Bishop-elect Porteous and Bishop-elect Fisher to the altar. Bishop-elect Julian Porteous is Rector of the Seminary of the Good Shepherd in Sydney. Bishop-elect Anthony Fisher OP has been the foundation director and Professor of Bioethics and Moral Theology at the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family based in Melbourne. Both men were born, raised and educated in Sydney. The Archdiocese of Sydney has been led by the Archbishop George Pell since 10 May 2001. The Archdiocese will now be served by four auxiliary Bishops: Bishop David Cremin who was consecrated on 19 January 1974, and Bishop Geoffrey Robinson, consecrated on 8 March 1984 as well as Bishop Porteous and Bishop Fisher.
