Preparing for Christmas in word and song at St Mary’s CathedralBy Catholic Communications, Sydney Archdiocese “From Darkness to Light”, a ceremony to mark the First Sunday of Advent, will be held at St Mary’s Cathedral this Sunday evening, 28 November 2004. It will be an evening of readings and music. Advent is a time of waiting in hope. Just as our forebears waited for the birth of the Messiah, today’s people are invited to contemplate their experience through the Scriptures and look to the Second Coming of the Saviour. Dean of St Mary’s Cathedral Fr Neil Brown says “This will be displayed symbolically in the gradual lighting of the Cathedral. The light that shines through the Cathedral represents the light of Jesus Christ shining in the dark world. “People of all faiths and none are invited to come and prepare for Christmas in a special way at the beginning of Advent, to take time out from shopping and parties to wait in hope for the coming of Christmas.” Many of the readings and hymns will help emphasise the waiting with alert expectation for Jesus Christ who is to come. St Mary’s Cathedral Choir will be singing. DATE: Sunday, 28th November 2004 For more information, contact St Mary’s Cathedral on 9220 0400 |
