Catholics to celebrate the life of Pope John Paul II at special Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral – Tuesday 5 April

Bishop Julian Porteous, acting for the Archbishop of Sydney, will celebrate a Solemn Mass for the deceased Pope, John Paul II, at St Mary’s Cathedral on Tuesday night, 5 April 2005 at 7.30pm.

In attendance will be His Eminence, Cardinal Clancy, former Archbishop of Sydney;  His Eminence Cardinal Cassidy, former head of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; and His Excellency, Apostolic Nuncio to Australia, Archbishop Ambrose De Paoli. Concelebrating with Bishop Porteous will be priests of the Archdiocese. 

Religious and Community leaders as well as Catholics from all over Sydney will be invited to gather to honour Pope John Paul II who has been Shepherd of the Catholic Church since 16 October 1978.
