What is the CWF?

The Charitable Works Fund (CWF) of the Archdiocese of Sydney is a centralised fund for the support of charitable and pastoral activities of the Archdiocese that extend beyond the limits of any single parish.

Funds of the CWF are raised by bequests, public donations, and an assessed parish amount. There are three special collections in the parishes each year to enable the parish to raise funds towards its assessment. Donations to the CWF are fully tax-deductible. A surplus amount is also contributed by the Catholic Development Fund (CDF) which gives parishes a rebate on part of their assessments.

An appeal is held once a year in Catholic schools. Teachers are provided with information which they can use this as an opportunity to help students become familiar with the works of the Church through the CWF.

The CWF is administered on behalf of the Cardinal Archbishop, by a committee representing parishes, the Archdiocese and the agencies which are supported by the Fund. This committee meets regularly to oversee the appeals, prepare promotional material to help explain the CWF, set parish assessments and supervise the distribution of funds to the agencies. Currently Monsignor Kerry Bayada, Parish Priest of Caringbah, is Chairman.

How can you make a difference?

You can make a difference to the works supported by the Charitable Works Fund by simply making a donation. Through your generosity you will be helping the following agencies and other charitable organisations:

You can make a donation to the Charitable Works Fund now without waiting for one of the three appeals held each year. In fact, you can now use the Internet to support the works of the Church. Alternatively, you can fax your credit card details or send in a cheque.
